INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA- MASS SPECTROMETER (ICP-MS)
Make: Thermo scientific X series II
Principle: ICP-MS is a multi-element technique that uses an ICP plasma source to dissociate the sample into its constituent atoms or ions. The ions are extracted from the plasma and passed into the mass spectrometer, where they are separated based on their atomic mass-to-charge ratio by a quadrupole or magnetic sector analyzer and detected by electron multiplier.

Applications of ICPMS in various fields:
A very wide variety of sample materials have been analyzed for most elements in the periodic table.
Some applications of solution ICP-MS include:
• Geological studies: trace element analysis of rocks, sediments, soils and soil leachates mineral separates
• Environmental analysis: trace element analysis of fresh, saline and sediment pore waters
• Clinical analysis: trace element analysis of human teeth and bones, food, fish bones, blood.
· Metallurgical studies: semi-conductor materials, metals, archaeological materials, ceramics, etc.
